5 Ways to Make Your Pool Safer This Summer ☀️

Pool safety is essential! As we all know, accidents can happen in an instant. We do not want that to happen to any of our little fish families, and we know you don’t want any accidents either. Edgarsnyder.com notes, “From 2015-2017, 73 percent of nonfatal swimming pool injuries involved children younger than 5.” Clearly, we need to be vigilant when it comes to pool time! Below we’ve compiled a list of 5 Ways to Make Your Pool Safer This Summer ☀️

We Cannot Be Too Careful 👀

Warmer weather is just around the corner. And we all know what that means… pool time! The pool is a great summer activity. Children get to enjoy the cool water and even work some muscles along the way. No one wants to spoil any of their fun. Nonetheless, we need good guidelines for what is clearly unsafe in the pool.

1. Use Pool Barriers and Covers 🏠

Pool barriers and covers are a great way to make your pool safer. There are many different types to consider. The Spruce notes that fiberglass mesh covers can hold up to 400 pounds per spare foot. Of course, we don’t want our children to test this! But, knowing there is a cover on the pool should someone slip and fall in is very comforting. Pool barriers can also be a great way to keep curious children safe & away from the pool.

2. Never Leave Pool Toys in the Water 🤿

The real danger here is that we want to eliminate any temptation for our kids to mess with the pool when they should not be. A random toy or water gun is calling out to every kid nearby! Make it good practice for the kids to always put all their toys and pool accessories away after swimming.

3. Keep All Pool Chemicals Locked Away 🧪

Pool chemicals are just that: chemicals. Just as we put household medications out of reach of children, we also want to ensure our children cannot access the pool chemicals. Make sure to have a designated place to store your pool chemicals so you are not tempted to leave them somewhere the kids can get into them. Consider a shelf or cabinet in the garage as your storage area!

4. Adult Supervision is Important 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

There is no substitute for adult supervision. Our children will always have fun in the pool! This means they are not always thinking about safety. This is where you come in! We want our families to enjoy the pool and to see it as a great time to have fun together. Consider setting a goal to always enjoy the pool with your children this summer.

5. Enroll Your Child in Swim Lessons 🏊🏼‍♀️

We strongly encourage you to enroll your child in swim lessons. Even if it is just for a season, any skills they can take home with them will help them stay safe in the water!. Of course, we are super proud of our programs at Little Fish Swimming. We are here for you and your little one. Our mission is to ensure they master the swimming pool by teaching safety and technique. Give us a call to see how we can help you today!
