Christmas makes the heart glad. It is a time of laughter, beauty, deep joy, and sensations. Perhaps part of what makes Christmas so special is its unique ability to bring out the little kid in all of us. Our hearts are drawn to it, and it invites us to a magical time! What’s more, we all celebrate it in our own unique ways. Every family has sacred Christmas traditions that are part of the season.

The Most Magical Time of the Year

What are your Christmas traditions? Our family always decorates the whole house on Black Friday. We have a Christmas movie in the background while we spread the magic all over the place. Somewhere throughout the day, our elf shows up, further delighting our children. This is a special time and a tradition we fight to keep. What about you? What makes Christmas unique for you? Here are some of our most favorite Christmas traditions at Little Fish Swimming.

1. Christmas Movies

Now listen, don’t let anyone tell you they cannot find a good Christmas movie. There are countless Christmas movies! We simply love watching them and sometimes aim to see how many we can watch in the month of December. Check out this list of The 100 Best Christmas Movies of All Time. As we said, there are so many! My kids are partial to The Grinch. Personally, nothing beats A Christmas Carol!

2. Baking Christmas Cookies
Everyone has their favorite Christmas cookies. No doubt you have some you make and enjoy every year. So do we! Our favorites include nutmeg logs and Crème De Menthe Brownies. So good! There are so many we have not even tried yet. Here is a list of 92 Easy Christmas cookie recipes. We challenge you to make at least 5 of them this Christmas season.

3. Christmas Decorations
Some people go soft when it comes to Christmas decorations. Others go hard and turn their house into a beacon you can see from space. We think more is better when it comes to decorations. However, we love it all  regardless of where you fall with Christmas decorations. If you need ideas for decorations, look at this list from Good Housekeeping.

4. Letters to Santa
Our children love writing letters to Santa. It is a special tradition that makes Christmas just so much more magical for them. There are a lot of ways to go about this. They could write about their year. Or why they should be on the good list, not the naughty one. Perhaps they could write about what they want for Christmas. To make it even better, USPS has a program where Santa can respond to your child. How cool is that!

Embrace the Christmas Spirit
Christmas is a unique and magical time. We simply love it. We encourage you to embrace the spirit of Christmas in whichever way is special to you. Maybe it is with some of the traditions and activities we listed above. Perhaps it is in other ways that are unique to your family. Eat lots of good food, enjoy the smells, lights, and colors, and feel the magic! Let us know what other Christmas traditions you enjoy. We would love to enjoy them alongside you.
