Would it surprise you that almost half of the people worldwide do not know how to swim? That’s the planet! Planet Earth 🌎 … Many do not have access to the water sources we are blessed with here in the West. But still, what a staggering number. Gallup tells us that in 2019 only 57% of men and 32% of women were capable of swimming unassisted. Wow!

Good or Bad Reasons?

I am sure people have many excuses for not learning how to swim. Swimming can be intimidating. Perhaps you have a medical reason, or maybe you are simply not in a safe area where you can learn to swim. These are some good reasons. But what about the not-so-good reasons? There are many! We have put together 5 reasons we often encounter.

  1. When I was a kid, my dad just threw me in

While this is certainly quick, it is not a great way to begin. If this has been your experience, no doubt you have some had feelings when it comes to swimming 🏊‍♀️. And who can blame you? John Wayne tried it… Perhaps it worked out for that kid. At Little Fish Swimming, we won’t just throw you in. Promise ☺

     2. When they get a little older, we will work on it

It might seem a safer approach to wait until your child is older. Healthy Children tells us that the younger, the better when learning to swim. There is no definite benefit to waiting to learn to swim. In fact, the benefits swimming gives kids are super helpful to them. Check out this article for 5 great reasons why swimming is a good idea at a young age.

      3. I’m going to teach them myself

Good intentions are the hallmark of all parents. We all say and mean that we will help our kids with this or that. I’ll play catch with them every weekend, so they get better at baseball ⚾️, etc. But, all parents also know that life does not stop, and it quickly gets in the way of our good intentions. Doing life and being responsible is precisely what our children need. So, let someone else help! At Little Fish Swimming, we guarantee you that your child will get the help they need to master swimming.

      4. Other Sports

This is a reality we all must face. Your child’s life will be filled with a myriad of sporting opportunities. And all of those opportunities will benefit them in one way or another. At Little Fish Swimming, we believe that swimming will be a tremendous boon to their overall development.

     5. I don’t have time.

No doubt you have this thought at least once every day. We all feel as if we do not have enough time. Time is a precious commodity, but if we stop 🛑 to think about it, we will see that we do have time for some things. We have evenings and weekends that generally are “open.” This is important for your child. Make time.
