This just in: “Swimming is NOT just a summer activity!” We know, what a shock! 😱 A lot of our little fish families are already rocking it with keeping their swimmer in lessons all year, but we want to make sure everyone knows that swimming can be a year-long, fun, and exciting activity. Lose it?

Everyone knows this: If you don’t practice something, you’re doing to forget what you learned. πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ Just like any other life skill, this is true for swimming! If we don’t continue to invest time and energy into swimming, we’ll start to lose the progress we’ve gained. Just look at some of these crazy stats on losing skills from ThinkHDI. Just like learning new skills in school or the workforce, we don’t want any of our swimmers to lose their tremendous success they’ve been able to reach through swim lessons! With that, let’s get into the five reasons we keep swimming year-round. ⬇️

1. If you want to get better at something, you have to practice πŸ’ͺ🏼

Practice makes perfect! One question we’re always asked is “How long will it take my swimmer to be a great swimmer?”. We always answer this the same way – How long do you have to commit to practicing? Are you going to stay consistent? Working hard at swim lessons for a few months is great, but if you stop for the rest of the year, it’s easy to forget what you’ve learned. Consistency will help you master your swim skills and build off what you learned instead of forgetting it! Jeremiah Brown gives us some reasons to practice. From giving you hope, to improving self awareness & clearing your head, all of these apply to your swim lessons journey. πŸŠπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

2. Don’t Cram for the test πŸ“

It’s important always to think ahead and be goal oriented when it comes to swimming. If you decide to wait until summer to work on your swim skills, it’s going to be harder in the long run. Learning to swim takes time! Consistent practice year round will keep you ready for the summer swim season, instead of scrambling to relearn skills at the start of summer.Β  If we practice year-round, we can pace ourselves, and we will be in a much better position to accomplish our long-term goals in the pool!Β

3. Swimming builds confidence πŸŠπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

We want all of our little fish to be confident in and out of the pool. Building your child’s swim skills and water safety knowledge in and around the pool creates confidence that sticks with them! Watching swimmers go from being scared to even put their toes in the water to swimming laps, is a truly incredible thing to see. When your little fish learns what they’re capable of in the water, they will take that confidence with them when they leave the pool. You will see them become more confident in other aspects of their everyday life, we guarantee it!

4. Swimming benefits overall health 🩺

Swimming is not just a lifesaving skill – it’s also great for your health! Swimming is a form of exercise, after all. This can help you maintain a healthy weight, heart, and lungs. Swimming positively impacts your body because you engage your entire body as you move against the water. Bettering your health can also improve your mental health, make you feel less tired, and help you to feel better overall!

5. Swimming boosts academics πŸŽ“

Swimming requires discipline that your little fish naturally learns over time. Students who learn to apply themselves in swimming build a solid foundation to apply themselves in academics. πŸ“š This discipline empowers students to work hard & stay focused during the school day, which will help them to excel in school. Swimming is also a great stress reliever, which makes it an awesome way for your little fish to blow off some steam after a day of schoolwork. Just think about it – with the boosts of your swimmer’s confidence, discipline, and overall heath, year-round swimming is bound to make your swimmer do even better in school!

We believe in you! 🧑

Truth be told, we might be a little bit biased. We admit it – we love swimming! We really do believe that it is a great sport and activity for your child to engage in throughout the year. At Little Fish Swimming, we want the absolute best for you & your family! We hope all of our little fish have an AMAZING school year, and we’ll see you at the pool soon. 😊
